In honour of October’s Full Moon, which was the Hunter’s Moon I created a decadent and earthy cocktail in a take on the traditional Hunter Cocktail which uses cherry brandy and bourbon. With cognac, rosehip syrup and fresh orange peel, The Huntress, made with Artemis, the ancient Greek Goddess of the Hunt, in mind, is a much more elegant affair.
1 1/2 oz Bourbon
1/2 oz Congnac
1/2oz Rosehip Syrup (see my reship post on Instagram, or use a dark sugar simple syrup; equal parts sugar and water and stir until the sugar is dissolved)
3 drops of bitters
Fresh Orange Peel
Add the syrup and bitters to a lowball glass, stir and use the mixture to coat the glass as you would an old fashioned. Add the bourbon and cognac, stir gently, add ice if wanted and garnish with a fresh piece of orange peel, be sure to bruise the peel between your fingers to releases the oil.
